What’s going on: How’s this for a flashback Friday? The Greatest Love of All is a tribute concert to one of the biggest pop icons of our times – Whitney Houston. What’s going on: Jazz Party is a loose collective of jazzbos known for their sporadic take-over of unlikely spaces across Melbourne. The Melbourne Bowling club takes on the dark, cool and dangerous vibe of Melbourne’s underground jazz scene, as players pump out a slippery mix of jump blues, boogie and rhythm and blues. Shouting, drinking and slow dancing with strangers encouraged!

What’s going on: As part of Melbourne International Design Week, this free outdoor exhibition showcases Victoria’s best designers. More than 100 award winning designs will be on display, just to show you some of the talent that our state has produced. This is the last day to check it out so don’t delay!

 

Lyme Disease Awareness Event

What’s going on: Lyme disease is the world’s fastest growing tick-borne illness and is affecting thousands throughout Australia. Come along and learn more about the disease and help raise awareness and funds for the on-going advocacy of Lyme and Lyme-like disease in Australia. Fed Square will also be lit up in green in support of Lyme disease awareness and sufferers on the nights of Fri 15, Sat 16 and Sun 17 May.

What’s going on: Did you know that beer and tequila are old mates? Must have been a rather secret friendship, we’re thinking, but all the same the good lads from The Kodiak Club and Tequila Tromba will walk you through the history and affinity of these lovely liquors.

 

Squizzy Taylor’s Ball

What’s going on: Squizzy Taylor got up to all sorts of mischief and you could get a glimpse at that world when Collingwood Town Hall is taken back nearly a century and transformed into a 1920’s speakeasy and brothel. The experience is fully immersive, with actors playing all the key historical characters, acrobats, magicians, singers, jazz bands and pop-up bars just to name a few of the features.

Tip: Dress code at Squizzy Taylor’s Ball is strictly 1920’s – 1930’s costumes…contemporary clothes are simply not allowed and you don’t want to mess with Squizzy’s boys on the door.

 

Stonnington Jazz Festival: Soul Bowl

What’s going on: Get your funk on at one of Melbourne’s oldest bowling clubs, experiencing the sounds of Cookin’ On 3 Burners, Australia’s foremost soul inspired Hammond organ trio and the infamous The Putbacks. DJ MZRIZK will be spinning tracks in between performances so it’s sure to be a night of cutting the rug!

 

RSPCA Million Paws Walk

What’s going on: Paws out for this fun community event which both you and your furry friend can enjoy and know you are doing your bit to end animal cruelty. The RSPCA Million Paws Walk is the biggest dog walk in Australia and in its 20th year has got lots of activities and entertainment planned. So do the Million Paws for your dog’s “walkies” this weekend!
